Yet another bug update

Well, unfortunately we now think we were wrong about the bugs dying…there are more again and they are moving about plenty. So we had our house fumigated and it was at least mostly effective. The spray was not as fine as we had hoped so some papers are slightly damaged but oh well. As well, it didn’t permeate quite as well as we had hoped, but at least the bugs are mostly all dead. I just went down to check and of the several thousand that I looked at I could only see one moving.

The clean up from the fumigation was much more extensive than the bug bombs (mostly because we can see the white residue left from the fumigation). I’ve spent the whole day cleaning things…mopping all the floors 2x, washing down cupboards, drawers, walls, washing dishes, doing laundry, etc. Pretty much everything needs to be wiped down but it takes a long time to get to it all…I tried to start with things the girls would be most likely to go for right away. Pretty crazy amount of cleanup and I haven’t even started on anything downstairs (plan to save that for tomorrow when James can help and we’ll have a friend come over to entertain the girls upstairs and/or outside).

I think we’ll take everything outside tomorrow (pray for a sunny day, today it has rained most of the day), and wipe it all down with bleach water to remove dead bugs and any that are alive and hopefully kill off the rest and be done with this whole thing. Then we’ll pack it away in the attic where the heat will kill anything we missed. Then we’ve got to figure out how to make sure there are none left in the bedroom downstairs. Once it is empty it will be much easier to clean and we may just wipe the whole room down with bleach everyday for a couple weeks to make sure they don’t come back.

As I was washing walls and cupboard doors today I realized that I am finally getting something done on my to-do list for going home. :-) Of course that was at the very end of the list supposed to happen after all the packing was done…we are supposed to wipe down all the walls and floors with bleach before we leave to make sure they are clean and there is no mold growing on them while we are gone – so once I finish that will be one thing I can check off my list because I’m certainly not doing it again just before we leave in a few weeks.

Thanks for all the prayers and encouragement…it seems that the end is finally in sight. :-D
