“I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10b-11)
Paratext Course
The Paratext 1 Course went well. Thank you for your prayers. We had 15 participants from all over Papua New Guinea (PNG), representing the Angor, Arapesh, Asaro’o, Borong, Burum-Mindik, Dedua, Ese, Kala, Mussau, and Pouye language groups.

I am glad that so many could come to learn how to do Bible translation using a computer, especially because some of them have been doing translation for over a decade or even longer! We had a good time learning about using the Paratext software for Bible translation. They especially liked performing this skit, which helped solidify their learning:

Christmas and Thanksgiving in PNG
We’re getting ready to celebrate Christmas here in PNG. That means shorts, a T-shirt, garden-fresh pineapple, and perhaps even a BBQ!

It’s definitely different to celebrate the “winter holidays” in 70-80 degree weather… not exactly the “White Christmas” you’ve been dreaming of. ;-)
We’ve been enjoying getting our kiddos involved in our Christmas preparations, especially helping them learn Christmas carols and reminding them that Jesus is the reason we celebrate. They even get to see a Living Nativity that their friends are acting in!

We’re also looking forward to leading a Christmas Carol Sing-Along this Sunday. It should be a fun time of singing favorite Christmas carols with our friends.
One of the most difficult things about being in PNG is being away from family and friends in the U.S. during the holidays. It’s during those times that we miss you more than ever, and recognize the importance of our friendships here in PNG even more.

Thank you for your prayers during this Christmas season and as we move into the New Year.
In Him,
James and Christina
