Please pray for rain. As Laurel would say, “Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots” of rain.

Here in Papua New Guinea (PNG) we rely on the rain for our drinking water (along with water for bathing, cleaning dishes, etc). If you can believe it, we’re in “dry” season now, and despite being careful, we have only about 200 gallons left in our tanks (which can hold about 3250 gallons when they are full). We’ve seen God provide before in amazing ways; please pray that He will provide again.

We’ve been praying as a family that God would send rain and it rained just a little bit last night. When Mikayla heard the rain on the roof she exclaimed, “It’s raining!! God sent rain for us!”

    Hi, James and Christina – Just wondering if you have gotten any of the rain we’ve been praying for.  We sure hope so!  Last night we were concerned that perhaps we forgot to mention to God that it is PNG that needs the rain. :) We were at the Tiger game with Kenn, Karen, Logan and Kade and just around the 7th inning it started to pour – complete with thunder and lightening.  We waited around a while and finally decided to buy ponchos and head to the car to go home.  Despite the ponchos we still got pretty wet – especially pants and shoes.  We walked through flowing rivers of water ankle deep as we crossed streets.  Since enough innings had been played to call it an official game, the end of the game was cancelled and the Tigers won.  So we had a great time at the game and the rain added to the excitement. :) Still praying for rain for you guys. 

    We are excited to be helping our Gerard with the mission experience next Sunday.  We will be using all the information he has put together and doing the presentation.  He has all the plans for decorating your room and we are going to go and help him get it set up.  I might make some coconut rice to offer.  A missionary friend suggested we serve the rice on a spinach leaf to get the concept of eating greens in there.  It wouldn’t be cooked but a spinach leaf would make a neat little “plate” for serving the rice.  Then Karen said I could do a sweet potato mash, spread it on the spinach leaf and add the coconut rice for a cool little PNG appetizer. :) I don’t think I’ll get that elaborate!  We are looking forward to doing this and will need to practice the presentation this week.

      Nope, no rain to speak of, but thank you for praying!  Too funny that it is pouring in Michigan and barely sprinkling here (not enough to fill the tanks).  Ankle deep water?!?!  Wow!

      You may have seen this already, but we posted about our water tanks going dry: https://www.thepostsonmission.com/2013/09/posts-from-png-dry-water-tanks.  But, God is good and He is faithful, and there is a solution.  We’ll share more about it soon, but we will have purified water available to us VERY soon.  We are blessed.  And yes, we are sure to get rain soon, it’s just a matter of how you define soon.  ;-)

      We really wish we could be there for the mission experience and are grateful that you will be “hosting” people in their visit to PNG.  Sounds like a really enriching time for the whole church.  Do you know if it would be possible to get pictures and/or a video of the presentation and room?  They could be sent on the USB flashdrive that will be on its way back to PNG in a month or so.
